Tony Xu in Year 6 has enjoyed an outstanding few weeks on the tennis court, achieving success in NZ and Australia.

From 2 to 6 July, Tony travelled to Brisbane to compete in the 2026 J250/J125 CBC Green Rod Laver Lead-In Junior Championships, hosted by Tennis Queensland. Competing in Australia for the very first time, Tony won the Under 10 Tier 2 Championship title against several strong young Queensland players.

The result was even more impressive given that Tony entered the competition without any Queensland ranking points. By the end of the tournament, he had earned enough points to finish 10th on the July Queensland Green Ball Competition leaderboard.

According to Tennis Queensland, the top 16 players on the leaderboard qualify for the 2026 Queensland State Masters, one of the state’s premier junior green ball events, placing Tony in a strong position to secure a place in the competition.

After two weeks in Queensland, Tony flew back to Auckland and went straight back into competition at the 2026 Tennis Northern Tier 2 Winter Junior Championships (Junior Masters), held from 14 to 17 July.

His strong form continued, with Tony finishing third in the Under 10 singles competition and winning the Under 10 doubles title.

What makes these achievements particularly special is that they are the result of consistent hard work, determination and a willingness to challenge himself against strong opposition. Competing away from home can be daunting, especially for younger athletes, making Tony’s performances all the more impressive.

We are proud to celebrate Tony’s achievements and look forward to following his progress in the years ahead.
