Pinehurst fencers have finished the 2026 Northern Schools season on a high, with a first place finish, an overall league bronze and several strong individual performances at the 3rd Northern Secondary Schools Fencing Championship.
Shawn Li led the results with 1st place in the Men’s Épée, the best result Pinehurst has achieved in this event. Julie Xiao also had plenty to celebrate, finishing 3rd in the Women’s Épée. Her results across all three Northern Schools competitions placed her 3rd overall in the 2026 Fencing North Schools League Championships, earning her the league bronze medal.
Yilia Wang and Olivia Fu continued the strong showing, finishing 7th and 8th respectively in their event.
The results round out an impressive season for Pinehurst fencing, with several of these students also recently returning from Australia after representing New Zealand at the Australian Youth and Cadet Championships.
Attention now turns to the 2026 New Zealand Secondary Schools Fencing Championships, which will be held in Auckland from 29 to 31 August.
