Year 8 student Helena Wasek-Webb has had an exceptional year of cycling so far, with wins across both mountain biking and road racing at regional and national level.

Her results span everything from cross country mountain biking and road races to hill climbs, time trials and criteriums, with Helena showing impressive consistency across very different cycling disciplines.

Helena’s 2026 season so far:

There have been some memorable moments along the way. Helena won the Tōtara Park Summer Series overall despite breaking her wrist during the second race, before returning to competition and continuing an already impressive season.

More recently, she produced one of her strongest performances of the year at the Novice Tour Manawatū, part of the Cycling New Zealand National Road Series. Racing over four stages in Halcombe on 1 and 2 August, Helena won every stage, taking first place in two road races, the Hill Climb and Individual Time Trial.

Those four wins secured the General Classification title, but Helena didn’t stop there, also taking home both the Queen of the Mountain and Sprint Ace titles.

There is still more racing ahead. Helena has two rounds remaining in the Auckland Schools MTB XC Series, where she has won all three races contested so far.

It has already been an amazing year for Helena, and there is still plenty of the 2026 cycling season to come!
