Welcoming Our New Families

On Thursday morning, we had the pleasure of welcoming our new Pinehurst students and their families with a heartfelt pōwhiri. Held in our gymnasium at 9:30 a.m., this special ceremony was a warm introduction for the 126 new students joining us across both Primary and College. Alongside them, around 150 parents and our new staff members also took part.

As our guests arrived, they were greeted with a traditional kapa haka performance. The ceremony included a thoughtful address from John Curwan, our new College PE teacher, who spoke on behalf of the manuhiri (our guests). It was a lovely way to underscore the sense of community and cultural respect that we value.

Following the pōwhiri, everyone moved to the dance studio to share kai (refreshments) and a brief karakia (prayer) before mingling. It was a warm, welcoming start to our new students’ journey with us, and we hope this gives you a sense of the spirit we share here at Pinehurst.
