We are proud to share, that Pinehurst student Junyang (David) Zhu (Year 12) has been offered a place at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) in the United States, where he will study Oboe Performance.

David recently received his official offer from the Senior Director of Admission at CIM, confirming his acceptance into one of the one of the world’s leading music schools. Entry into CIM is highly competitive, and this offer reflects both his exceptional musical ability and the consistency of his work over many years.

Many in our community will have seen David perform recently as part of the Auckland Arts Festival, where he represented both himself and the school with confidence and maturity. His journey with the oboe began at a young age, and since then he has continued to build his experience through performances, competitions and international study, steadily developing into a musician of real promise.

David will remain at Pinehurst through Term 2, balancing his academic studies with his growing music commitments, before leaving to begin this next chapter in the United States.

We are incredibly proud of what David has achieved during his time at Pinehurst. He has approached his learning with focus and quiet determination, and has been a wonderful example of what passion and commitment can lead to.

We wish David every success as he takes this next step and look forward to following his journey ahead.
