Pinehurst’s first-ever cheerleading team has made an extraordinary start, being crowned Overall Champions at the Spring Carnival Cheer Competition in their very first competition.
After just one month of rehearsals, the team took to the competition floor for the first time and delivered an outstanding performance, winning Gold and 1st place in their grade within the Schools Division before going on to be named Overall Champions.
It was an impressive achievement for a newly formed team, particularly with many of the girls arriving at the competition after an already busy week competing at the AIMS Games.
Led by Mrs Laura Curwood and Coach Yuzu from Midnight Athletics, the team has come together quickly, learning the skills, routines and teamwork required to perform competitively in a very short space of time.
Just as impressive as the result was the way the students represented Pinehurst throughout the competition. The team showed wonderful support and encouragement for one another, while also cheering on other teams and demonstrating the Pinehurst values that sit at the heart of school sport.
To walk away with Gold, 1st place and the Overall Champion title at Pinehurst’s first-ever cheerleading competition is a fantastic achievement and an exciting beginning for this new addition to our sporting programme.
Congratulations to all of our cheerleaders, Mrs Curwood and Coach Yuzu on an exceptional debut. The team will return to the competition floor on 1 November, and after a start like this, we can’t wait to see what comes next.
