National Champions of the University of Auckland Schools Case Competition

Last week, Pinehurst students Mackenzie Cooper, Mikayla O’Brien, Ben Steele and Lucy Stuart were crowned National Champions of the University of Auckland Schools Case Competition. A case competition is a competitive business problem-solving and pitch activity in which students have a limited time to read a case, devise a strategy, and pitch that to a team of judges. The competition is run by the Management Consulting Club at Auckland University.

Last term, four teams of A2 Business Studies students were entered into the National Schools Case Competition. Two of these teams progressed to the semi-finals in May. The first two rounds were judged via YouTube and Skype. The final round was held at Auckland University on Friday 25th May. The Pinehurst team were confined to a meeting room with no phones or internet access while they came up with a strategy to increase the donations and awareness for the charitable organisation Oxfam. While students said that there were moments which tested their friendships during the event, they worked exceptionally well together to present a polished and convincing strategy.
