Every year, Pink Shirt Day invites schools, workplaces and communities across NZ to take a stand against bullying and celebrate diversity and inclusion. Founded in New Zealand and run by the Mental Health Foundation, the day is a reminder that kindness is not passive — it’s something we can choose to show up for together.
At Pinehurst, that message was spread across both Primary and College on Friday 15 May, with a week of activities that brought the whole school community together.
Primary students created a Kindness Garden in the school reception — a colourful, visible reminder of the values at the heart of the day. The Citizenship Council led a full programme of events that had students writing pink shirt messages of kindness, delivering hand-written compliment cards, and gathering on Friday for a fashion show, cup stacking games, a three-legged race and a fundraiser bake sale that was very popular.
It was wonderful to see students from across Primary and College coming together to participate and have fun as one community.
Congratulations to all of the competition winners on the day. KRH took out the title of pinkest POD in the College. Julia Linde and Hannah Innes wowed the judges in the fashion show, with special thanks to guest judges Mrs Rakete, Mrs Keshwara and Mr Goforth for lending their time and their very best judging eyes. And in the three-legged race, well done to Zara Roodt and Samantha Simpson-Foster from the College for crossing the line together.
The fundraiser raised an impressive $1,756.70 for the Mental Health Foundation — a fantastic result and a reflection of just how generously our community shows up when it counts.
