Life in Primary

At Pinehurst Primary, every day is alive with possibility. Students are immersed in a rich and varied programme that balances core learning—like reading, writing, and maths—with hands-on experiences in science, art, music, languages, sport, and digital technology. From their first year, children explore Spanish, Chinese, and global perspectives, while specialist teachers spark curiosity in science, the arts, and PE. As they grow, opportunities in coding, STEM projects, and creative challenges help students deepen their skills and discover new passions. With small classes, individual support, and plenty of encouragement, every learner is inspired to try new things, build confidence, and find their place in a community where learning is both fun and meaningful. 

At Pinehurst, learning isn’t limited to the classroom walls. Students dive into a world of real-life experiences—whether it’s through hands-on enterprise with the PREP programme, discovering teamwork and creativity at school events, or building resilience on school camps from Year 3 onwards. 

Throughout the year, children take part in outdoor adventures, buddy days with College students, and special visits from groups like Conscious Kids, Harold the Giraffe, and Financial Literacy educators. There are plenty of opportunities to shine in sports too, with athletics, swimming, and cross-country events, as well as cultural showcases, performances, and community days that fill the calendar with excitement.

Every child’s wellbeing is at the heart of Pinehurst Primary. Our dedicated Learning Support team and Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) work closely with classroom teachers to ensure children receive the help, challenge, or encouragement they need. Peer Mediators—trained from among the students—help classmates solve playground problems and build positive relationships. Our school culture is grounded in kindness, respect, and the Pinehurst Triangle: students, families, and school all working together. We also have a counsellor onsite to support students with any personal or emotional challenges. 

With three purpose-built Primary playgrounds for different ages, grassy fields, and wide-open lawns, play is a big part of every day at Pinehurst. Designed by a specialist in educational playspaces, our playgrounds blend natural materials, creative zones, and sensory features—giving children new adventures and quiet places to connect, all year round. Children enjoy sport, games, and free time outdoors, building friendships and learning the value of teamwork and fair play. From PE to lunchtime clubs, there’s always something happening—and always space for everyone to belong. 

Pinehurst believes in giving even our youngest students opportunities to lead and be heard. From classroom monitors and council roles from Year 3 and up, to House Captains and peer mentors, students have real chances to contribute and make a difference. Buddy programmes and school events let every child have a say and play their part in our community.
