Design Technology is where creativity meets curiosity – a space where ideas are explored, tested and transformed into real solutions.
From the first lesson, students learn by doing. They sketch, plan, build, and refine their designs, applying knowledge from Science, Mathematics, Art and English to solve real-world problems.
From Year 9, students are introduced to design thinking through practical projects that build skills and confidence. Using the design model ACCESS FM to consider function, safety, materials, and user needs, discovering that good design is as much about purpose as it is about appearance. As they grow in experience, students take greater ownership of the design process.
As they progress, students take greater ownership of the process. They design and model prototypes using tools such as CAD software, laser cutters and 3D printers, while also learning traditional craft skills that develop precision and perseverance.
Collaboration is at the heart of the workshop. Students share ideas, troubleshoot challenges and celebrate success together, building confidence, independence & problem-solving skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
