Alex ReedExecutive PrincipalMA (Cantab.), MLitt (Auckland), P.G.C.S.E, N.P.Q.H. |
Alex has had experience of school leadership in a number of high-performing schools in the United Kingdom and New Zealand. He comes to us from Westlake Boys High School, where he was Associate Headmaster for six years, leading the school’s curriculum, teaching and learning programmes.
Alex believes that every young person is capable of achieving beyond his or her expectations. He enjoys the company of young people and loves working out ways they can be happy and successful, following all of their chosen pathways to fulfilment. He is delighted to be leading Pinehurst, a school committed to excellence in a supportive environment, because it is determined to develop individual students with kindness, empathy and a focus on self-discipline, a determination he shares.
He is particularly interested in developing the ways we can prepare all students for their futures, responding to the needs of every young person at the same time as ensuring that he or she shares a strong sense of community. He is always keen to hear from parents about their experiences or to listen to their ideas, because he believes that we grow best when we grow together. And that, as we talk, we will continue do grow in ways that are rigorously, confidently ethical, led by values that will support the people our children will become.
Alex is enthusiastic about music and sport, though he possesses little talent in either discipline. He spends a great deal of time reading, and is in the early stages of a PhD on 1970s British novels. What he enjoys most, though, is spending time with his daughters and walking on one of our wonderful beaches.
