Primary Students' Green Fingers Win National Award

Yesterday Pinehurst Primary students was announced the overall The Great NZ Schools Grow Off winner, beathing nationwide competition and winning a total prize value of $1500.   

 

To succeed the students worked hard together with teacher Jacqui Herbert, sending in regular updates of their vegetable garden which explained and showed good progress, team work and the results achieved.

Designed to inspire and assist all levels of schooling (pre-school to secondary) to start growing vegetables at school, The Great NZ Schools Grow Off sets tasks which involve designing, creating and maintaining an edible garden. It was no easy journey for the students who had to meet specific judging criteria to become the overall winner of all categories.

The Great NZ Schools Grow Off judges were impressed with the Pinehurst School students with “their enthusiasm, hard work and vision for their school Garden. From site selection to which vegetables to plant, the children made informed decisions to achieve their shared goal.

“A well deserving and inspiring winner!”

A trophy will be e presented to the students in December in recognition of their outstanding achievement, beating all competing schools, including secondary schools, nationwide. Pinehurst Property staff are now busy preparing space for the students’ prize, a garden master shed filled with Tui products and garden tools.
