High Expectations For New Head of Pinehurst Senior College

September 2009

Today, the Pinehurst School Board of Governors announced the appointment of Jacqueline White as Headmistress of Pinehurst Senior College.

In her position as Headmistress of Senior College, White will oversee all students and staff from Years 10 – 13.

Pinehurst Executive Principal, Ms Sherida Penman Walters says, “We are thrilled with the appointment of Ms White and believe her in-depth experience with implementing and teaching Cambridge programmes at the senior secondary level will greatly benefit Pinehurst. Her expertise and reputation within New Zealand education in general, and the Cambridge System in particular, is outstanding.”

For the past seven years White has been employed in curriculum management at St Peter’s College, most recently as Deputy Principal, planning and overseeing curriculum change management and implementing the Cambridge International Examinations within the school.

White has a broad range of experience, working with both the New Zealand national qualification and the Cambridge International programme, including the recent implementation of the Checkpoint programme into years 7 – 9. During her time as Deputy Principal, White has successfully grown the Cambridge profile within the school.

Prior to her appointment to St Peter’s she spent seven years as a member of the foundation staff of ACG Senior College. During this time she developed and led the school’s History Department, leaving in 2002 to take up her initial appointment with St Peter’s College as Head of Humanities.

In 2004, due to her success in implementing the Cambridge International Examinations within the Humanities Faculty, she accepted the position of Director of Cambridge, with specific responsibility for the school-wide Cambridge Programme.

In 2007, White accepted the position as Deputy Principal, with responsibility for both the school’s national and international curriculum. She will vacate this position in late October to take up her new role at Pinehurst on 2 November.

White is presently a member of the Association of Cambridge Schools of New Zealand’s Academic Committee and is widely respected in the industry as a consultant in the area of curriculum change-management.

Outside of her teaching career, White holds an M.A (Hons) in History and has been a successful representative debater, possessing a University of Auckland Sports Blue and representing New Zealand at two World University Debating Championships.
