NZSS Gymsport Champs

Author -  Shannon Sager

On Saturday the 3rd of August two year nine students, Daria Perevoztchikova and Georgia Hughes, competed in the National Gymsport Secondary Schools Championships. Hughes competed in the senior artistic women’s division, whilst Perevoztchikova competed in the senior rhythmic women’s division.
The competition was held at Counties Manukau, Takanini. It took around an hour’s drive to get there, so the girls left their homes pretty early. Arriving at the gym that morning, Perevoztchikova promptly began her warm-up. After approximately an hour of warming up, Perevoztchikova’s competition had started.
The spectators watched in awe as Perevoztchikova performed her three extremely difficult routines to an excellent standard. She finished an exceptional 2nd place overall.
Hughes started her warm-up forty five minutes after Perevoztchikova. She had four routines to compete in, on each of the four different apparatus; floor; beam; bar; vault. She placed 1st on beam, 1st on bar and 2nd on floor. She also achieved 1st overall.
