Confucius Institute Day on Saturday 27 September

Author -  Shannon Sager

We’re really excited about Confucius Institute Day on Saturday 27 September from 10 – 4pm in the quad at The University of Auckland, 32 Princes St.

This is free, public event and our Mandarin Language Assistants have prepared some fantastic activities for children and adults to do – Chinese painting, calligraphy, write your Chinese name, Chinese map activities, paper cuttings, Chinese language lesson, Chinese knot making, playing Chinese games, Beijing Opera face painting, playing Chinese instruments, making dumplings, watching a tea ceremony and there will be lantern riddles for children to guess as well as gifts for children who do the activities. There’ll be a Peking Duck stall (delicious!), Chinese medicine and Chinese tea stalls as well as delicious Chinese food and snacks for lunch.

We have a powhiri and lion dance at the official opening (10am) and many performances – Chinese drumming, dance, tai chi, singing and acting performances that are continuous throughout the day. So much effort and time has gone into preparing this fun and entertaining community event and we thought it would be a great way for children and their parents to ‘kick off’ their school holidays with. Or come with friends!

We would really appreciate you promoting this to your students, teachers and parents – maybe in an ‘end of term’ newsletter, emails or your assemblies – I have attached artwork for you to use. I have also attached a map with parking details ($6 parking all day at the University of Auckland Business School (OGGB), 12 Grafton Road). It will be great to see you there so please come along. Xiexie.
