Rick Parry
Many will remember Rick Parry as Pinehurst Head Boy around 5 years ago, now you’ll recognise his name as it regularly appears across sports news as an outstanding New Zealand Ice Blacks ice hockey player.
After leaving Pinehurst, Rick went to Canada in 2006, the ice hockey capital of the world, to gain more experience on the ice, improving his game to a new level.
Goaltenders remain on the ice for the entire game and are under continual pressure with pucks flying up to100km/h. This has never jolted Rick’s confidence as he remains top in his field having recently been awarded Sportsperson of the Year at the annual Otago University Students Association Blues Awards. Congratulations Rick!
Alistair Patterson
Alistair Patterson was Head Boy of Pinehurst in 2004 and is currently completing his Masters Degree at Massey University. At Pinehurst in 2003, Alistair came first in New Zealand in IGCSE Design Technology and has successfully continued to follow his passion for design.
During his time at Pinehurst, Alistair completed the two-year A’ level Design Technology and went on to study at Massey University, completing a Bachelor of Design (Product Design) and graduating in 2009 with First Class honours. Alistair’s final year thesis was the design of a bio-degradable water bottle (the Bio Bottle) that can also be used as a Planter. This was one of the feature products at the Design Exposure 2009 exhibition.
Chloe Jade Smith
I started Pinehurst when I was five in the New Entrant class on 3 February 1992, and I am proud to have grown with the school right through to Year 13, leaving at the end of 2004. I made some wonderful lifelong friends over the years and found the learning environment nurturing and holistic.
I was treated as an individual with potential and I was encouraged to give my best in all areas of school life. Highlights of my time at Pinehurst include representing the school academically in Japan and Taiwan, and being a Prefect in Year 13.
After graduating from Pinehurst, I obtained a Bachelor of Planning with Honours from the University of Auckland. I am now working for Hutt City Council as an Environmental Policy Analyst.
Our Alumni Co-Ordinator, Mrs Liz Hunt, plans regular functions for Alumni and welcomes news from past students. For further information please contact her on liz.hunt@pinehurst.school.nz
