Pinehurst Student selected to attend Raffles Science Camp, Singapore
Jennifer Sweeting, a Year 13 Pinehurst student, was recently selected by The Royal Society of New Zealand to travel to Singapore in June and attend the Raffles Science Camp; a camp for top science students.
Launched in 2007, The Raffles Science Camp gives budding scientists the opportunity to learn about science through fun and engaging activities over a six consecutive day period.
Participants gain hands on learning experience, attend workshops, get involved in lively debates, as well get the opportunity to meet and listen to specialists in their fields.
This is the first year that the Raffles Science Camp has opened up its doors internationally, inviting top science student from all over the world to the event.
Debbie Woodhall from the Royal Society of New Zealand, an organisation set up in 1867 to promote Science and Technology in New Zealand, says more than 300 applications were received this year from keen science students. “This is a huge increase on previous years with an excellent standard of applications,” she says.
Pinehurst Executive Principal, Ms Sherida Penman Walters is undoubtedly proud of Jennifer’s achievements.
“Jennifer has a real passion for science and has done exceptionally well. She was literally up against hundreds of applicants so we were thrilled to hear the news that she was selected.”
