North Island Primary School Ski and Snowboarding Champs 2011
The North Island Primary School Ski & Snowboarding Champs was again a huge success with more than 90 team entries and in excess of 400 athletes participating. The Inaugural Pinehurst School Ski & Snowboard Teams for 2011 all completed the course with spectacular results from our athletes.

Pre-race day gate training before lunch and free skied all mountain in afternoon. Firm packed groomed slopes on trail and bluebird day with superb spring conditions.

Giant Slalom Event postponed due to high winds at Whakapapa, however, all athletes skied Turoa with machine packed snow on extensively groomed trails and clear blue sky.

Athletes met 8.00am Top of Bruce Café before taking the lift to the Valley for the Giant Slalom Event. After familiarizing themselves with the course, racing commenced at 10.30am with two races per competitor. Athletes best run was recorded for overall placement. There were five course, Senior Boys, Senior Girls, Junior Boys, Junior Girls and Snowboarding. Another blue sky day and firm packed groomed slopes.

Dual Slalom Race Event and Skier-X eventually cancelled due to poor visibility. Athletes met at 8.30am Top of the Bruce and then spent the morning at Lorenzo’s Café till 10.00 due to race cancellation. The day was not lost with a visit to the historic Grand Chateau Hotel and Rock Wall Climbing at Ohakune.
