Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award

The Young New Zealander’s Challenge is the New Zealand title for The Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award scheme. It is a non-competitive programme of leisure activities for young people aged 14-25, which enables individuals to develop a series of personal challenges. The award comprises of four sections: Service, Skills, Expeditions and Physical Recreation.

At Pinehurst, we endeavour to develop the whole child and part of that development relates to co-curricular activities. We offer a number of sporting and cultural activities, together with a series of education opportunities outside the classroom.

School camps are an important and very popular aspect of school life. From Year 3 onward, our students benefit greatly from superbly run camp programmes. In addition, many students have the opportunity to undertake international trips.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award is a highly respected International Youth Development Programme, undertaken by all Year 10 students who work toward their Bronze Award. Many choose to continue with this very popular programme, working in later years toward their Silver and Gold Awards.

This is a prestigious qualification, widely recognised by universities and employers alike. Some useful links: www.challengenz.org.nz and www.ppsnz.co.nz
