Cambridge CIE Programme Overview

View a video from Cambridge on "Understanding Cambridge Learners"

Pinehurst has an established and successful association with the University of Cambridge CIE (Cambridge International Examination) programme and a deep understanding of delivering this world class curriculum from the Primary years, through to the Junior College and Senior College.

We are proud to have been acknowledged as a leading global educator. Pinehurst has been awarded the status of Cambridge Centre of Excellence, placing us among the top percent of 10,000 Cambridge schools worldwide

All our College students sit the Cambridge International Examinations exclusively as we believe these rigorous and well structured qualifications best serve them to become successful global citizens.

CIE qualifications are internationally recognised and highly sought after. They cover a very large range of subjects from within the sciences, languages, humanities and career specific areas such as graphic design.

CIE is the world's largest provider of international qualifications for 14 - 19 year olds. Every year millions of students are entered for CIE examinations in over 150 different countries. Cambridge curriculum is international and does not simply demand recalled knowledge. More importantly, it develops the acquisition of critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Pinehurst students consistently achieve outstanding results in Cambridge Examinations, with several students receiving Top in New Zealand and Top in The World awards in their subjects.

Pinehurst Junior College

In the Junior College, we believe it is essential to focus on the process of learning. Interwoven through all our lessons are the Habits of Mind and Multiple Intelligence theories. All our programmes are designed to help students reach their individual potential.

Specialist teachers facilitate learning in all subjects areas with the homeroom teacher always taking a core subject (English, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies) to enable them to develop closer relationships with their Homeroom students. Homeroom teachers cater for the pastoral care of the student. Our policy of ensuring no more than 25 students in any class provides excellent teacher student ratios and enhances learning opportunities. Ratios are reduced for Visual Art, Music,Technology and I.C.T.

In addition to the core subjects, we have additional specialist teachers who deliver Art, Music, Technology, Spanish, Mandarin, Information Communication Technology, Performing Arts and Eudemology.

Further programmes provided to enrich student's educational experiences are P.R.E.P (Primary Enterprise Programme), General studies Programme, Future Problem Solving, Mathex Programme, B.P Technology Challenge, E.O.T.C (Education Outside The Classroom, which includes our Ski Camp, Wellington City Study, Outdoor Adventure Survival Week) and a remarkably wide range of cultural and sporting opportunities.
